OMWH

On my journey of branding my many works of creativity I knew one thing I never wanted to do was deviate from who I am. I wanted one of those cool outrageous rap names maybe even a “Lil” and I may eventually add to my catalog of alias and titles but right from the start I wanted the world to know and understand how it all began. I had many names growing up, even with so many legal and given names everyone had a different nickname for me. My close friends called me one name and my family called me another. You could tell the level of connection I had to someone by the name they called me. I come from a huge family and growing up in such a communal societal structure everyone in the neighborhood pretty much knew who I was and who I was related to. My uncles called me Dipson a twist on the short hand of my first name Oladipupo(Dipo) which became Dipson. There was also another name everyone knew me by and might have actually been my first nickname. Everyone called my grandmother who raised me “Iya White House” meaning the mother of the White House and that led to everyone calling me “Omo Mama White House”(OMWH). Meaning child of the mother of the White House. I guess growing up in the only all White House for miles in the middle of Ajilosun Ado-Ekiti earned us a nickname. If there was ever a name that captured the ideas, hopes and dreams of the boy that I was it definitely is OMWH. I have learned to accept myself, my mistakes, my beginning and my end. OMWH allows me to never stray too far from who I am and who I want to continue to be. I am the same boy who wanted to see everyone around me do even better than they were. I am the boy that wanted that wanted to use my voice and presence on this planet for the purpose of uniting human beings. I am the same boy that wanted a more progressive Nigeria and the world as a whole. I am the same boy who wanted to make music to move souls and touch lives. I am OMWH. My ideas, my hopes and dreams may have taken cuts and bruises along the road of becoming an adult but they have yet to be diminished and now more than ever I am equipped with the necessary tools to accomplish them.

I created the OMWH merch to celebrate the spirit of becoming who we are and who we have always wanted to be. I hope to inspire you to be who you want to be.

5 Goals I Have in Music

I ask myself all the time wtf do I want from this music shit?? 1️⃣ I want what I always had, the ability to speak my mind! The ability to write my pain away. The ability to speak my frustrations and hope someone else can relate. I heard too many artists discuss losing what they once had all for the sake of the business. 2️⃣ Yes, this is a business so therefore I plan on making a profit. I like some material things but half of it is a wash. I believe we can do real impactful change in this world with money than just buying shit. It cost money to build schools and hospitals. It cost money to feed the Poor. 3️⃣ Do I want those who I have admired to admire my work? Yes and I don’t care to be honest. I think it’s kool and certainly everyone wants that but everyone is just human and flawed on so many levels. I am truly grateful for those who already appreciate my work. 4️⃣ I want to inspire kids from the same town I was born in and show them it’s possible. This sounds so cliche but I was born in Ado-Ekiti in a small neighborhood where till this day Opportunities are skim and quality of life can very well still improve. I want to shine a light on my city. Understanding the entertainment industry has legs and directly impacts economies and other industries. I definitely want to grow my City’s economy. 5️⃣ I want to grow in music and other industries, in creating, creativity, expressing and delivering better product. This is so fun for me. This provides me the adventure that guarantees that I always feel alive and never waste a moment. I believe this is my journey.

Album on the Way

Sorry for the wait, but sometimes things have a way of turning out. I have contemplated not even releasing this album several times. Being an artist can be difficult sometimes, you are your own worst critic. I have learned a lot from this process, this is my first album and it definitely won't be my last. I ENJOY THIS! I have decided I rather spend my life doing something I enjoy than let this life use me up. I am slowly piecing everything together and I still have a lot to learn. Album will drop 4/4/18, I hope you enjoy it, there is something for everyone and I look forward to making even better music. Check out the cover and track list for the album and look forward to it on streaming sites. Stay updated I have a lot more exciting things coming, this is a journey I am excited for and ready to share my steps along the way.

ADEK BKNY EXMN

You know what they say location, location location.  You might often see ADEK BKNY EXMN if you're not familiar these represent three major locations I have lived for more than five years. I called these places home, they shaped my reality and became the cornerstone of my artistic journey. Not only were these places home but they represent pivotal points in my development.

ADEK being ADo EKiti, Nigeria where I first laid eyes on the world.  The beginning where Africa made a man out of me at a very young age. I quickly understood the world is cruel and as we say in Nigeria "Fingers are not equal" . My love of art and creativity is definitely a reflection of my Nigerian identity, growing up in Nigeria I was heavily influenced by various artists, philosophers and musicians, this was the beginning of my enlightened journey.

BKNY being BrooKlyn New York, one day I was in Nigeria and the next day I woke up in Brooklyn. My transition from Nigeria to Brooklyn was like that of a baby being snatched from its mother. I was only 11 and by the plans of my own mother I never got a chance to inform anyone of my plans, let alone say goodbye to anyone. Overnight I traded one life for another. I left my tropical rain forest to find my way in the concrete jungle. Just when I thought life couldn't possibly throw me for another loop. Brooklyn in a weird way allowed me to regain some of my innocence at the same time corrupting my world view all over again. Brooklyn is where Hip Hop became my dominant genre, I officially began writing Poetry and Rap. Brooklyn was the final piece to my developmental puzzle, Brooklyn made me realize I could only run so far from myself. Brooklyn is my first city in America, sort of like a gateway between this world and that world. Brooklyn is the center point should I ever stray too far from the myself. When I leave America its through Brooklyn and when I return it will be through Brooklyn.

EXMN being EXcelsior MinNesota, where it all came together. Minnesota in general represents my breakaway from everything I knew. My breakaway from home to create my own home, my breakaway from family and my comfort zone. I became accustomed to my New York lifestyle where it seemed I could do no wrong. Ironically I left New York to Minnesota for higher education. Minnesota became my own path to blaze, far from the center but for the first time in my Life I am doing things exactly how I want them. Excelsior is one of the most beautiful places I have ever lived and provided the necessary resources to begin my journey into creating Music. I am more focused than I have ever been and falling more in love with the process of becoming the person I knew I always was.

ADEK BKLYN EXMN represent the trinity of Life. Everything has a Beginning, a Center point and a current state where it all forms a bigger picture. These cities make me who I am and I am very thankful on the path that I ended up on.  I may never be in all three at once but I'm always representing.
